Safari on Linux: got it!

Yep Safari on Linux is here: there is still some work to do, tough.

  • seems like the Apple website is the only website fully working. Every other website is missing the text contents
  • the mouse cursor disappears when moving over the viewport (where the web page is rendered)
  • it is SLOW!

Anyway it is working and, with reference to my previous posts, it is getting better and better.

Safari on Linux

Here is what you need to do

  1. Ensure you got the latest wine installed: 0.9.39
  2. Download Safari from the Apple website
  3. run “wine SafariSetup”
  4. Download winetricks
  5. CD to the folder where Safari got installed (should be similar to ~/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Safari/)
  6. Run “sh winetricks vcrun2005″
  7. Run Safari with “wine Safari”

Enjoy!

UPDATE: Latest Safari version (3.522.15.5) does not work… gosh!….

    Ottima impresa, ma non mi piace per niente Safari, esteticamente.

    pensa a quelli che oggi si trovano a lavorare con framework per applicazioni ajax (come me!): safari è uno dei broswer dove fare i test. Ora non devo nè comprare un mac nè far partire windows per eseguirli.

    beh, magari non è ancora davvero utilizzabile, però siamo sulla buona strada

    Bellissimo. È molto più semplice di un altro metodo che consisteva nel patchare wine…
    Anche se non penso che lo userò…

    Che strano, a me invece adesso ha funzionato proprio con la 3.0.2 (522.13.1)… I casi della vita…

    da me funziona ! Opensuse 10.3 wine e font microsoft ! Però chissà perché le varie voci dei menu sono tutte strette-strette ! Si vede anche dallo screenshot di questo sito ! …..
